This month, let’s explore an experiment in presenting art – the Virtual Online Museum of Art. The Director, Lee Cavaliere, describes its vision “to collaborate with museums and collections around the world, bringing artworks to a huge global audience. We can show works from across history, bringing hidden works into the light and shedding new light on well-known pieces.” During the pandemic, a lot of museums found new ways to share their collections online to keep reaching out to the public, but the British artist and creator of VOMA, Stuart Semple, bills this as the first “one that is born digitally.” VOMA collaborates with multiple traditional museums to present a wide range of pieces from 18th Century Goya to 21st Century Banksy in a 360-degree format. We will focus on two current exhibitions --
Reclaiming the Body: Artists Across History Working with the Female Form
Why We Shout: The Art of Protest
Leslie will lead us through each exhibition and share some information about the works presented. We will have plenty of time to share our own thoughts and reactions, both to the specific art and to VOMA's approach.
This event will take place on Zoom. The link will be sent to registrants shortly before the event.
TTN Members who are not members of the Chapter or the SIG are welcome to sample up to three of this SIG's events. Members can also bring a non-member guest for a nominal fee.
