About the Group
American Patchwork Quartet is a one-of-a-kind supergroup that hones its musical identity from the backgrounds of its diverse members. On a mission to reclaim the immigrant soul of American roots music, their cultural threads draw from jazz, country, folk, West African, and East Asian influences. Led by Grammy-winning guitarist Clay Ross, founder of Ranky Tanky, the group includes Falu, an 11th-generation Hindustani classical vocalist; Yasushi Nakamura, an Issei jazz bassist; and Clarence Penn, a Grammy-winning drummer. Together, with an assortment of sounds, stories, and instruments, their performance is a musical personification of America’s melting pot.
