CHICAGO CHAPTER SPECIAL INTEREST GROUPS

Members can join Special Interest Groups (SIGs) that connect you with other members for fun, relevant, social and learning opportunities. They are topic- or activity-focused and bring together members who share similar interests. SIGs are member-driven and member-led, and are as varied as the members who think them up. Examples include book clubs, travel groups, theatre and dining groups, mahjong, cooking or crafting. SIGs meet in person and via ZOOM.

To join an active SIG with openings, contact the Lead listed in the SIG description.  The Lead will give you details on the group – how, when, where – and you are ready to go.

We are always looking for new ideas for SIGs, so if you are a Women's Connection member and are interested in organizing and leading a new Special Interest Group, please contact Michelle Charles, our SIG Coordinator.

Non-members are always welcome to attend; we allow non-members to attend two meetings/events before we request they become members.

Mahjong Anyone? - Meets in person

Join in on the fun playing mahjong!

New to the game? No worries, no experience necessary.  Once you RSVP, we will send you the name of our mahjong teacher so you can sign up for classes before you come and play. We can use more players so do not delay in reaching out to us. The more players the better!

American mahjong is played with four players using tiles stamped with Chinese symbols. The goal of the game is to be the first, by picking and discarding, to match one's tiles to a specific hand from the annually distributed scorecard published by the National Mah Jongg League (NMJL) and American Mah-Jongg Association (AMJA). Scoring is done by matching the points assigned to each pre-determined hand on the annually distributed NMJL card & AMJA card.

If you are interested in joining, email Debra Chandler

Schedule: Weekly on Thursday from 1:30-3:30 p.m.
Place: 900 N Michigan Ave, 6th Floor, above the food court

STILL Working

A SIG for Women's Connection Members who are still in the workforce

The STILL Working SIG members meet monthly after work to socialize, and to have informal yet meaningful discussions on the challenges and opportunities we face while working in a multigenerational workforce. There is no formal agenda, and the goal is to foster insightful conversations, and to cultivate a supportive and enriching community.  Interesting topics of discussion might include navigating the multigenerational workforce, striving for work-life balance, transferring knowledge and experience, and deliberating the right time for retirement.  Contact Donna Hannemann with any questions.

Note:  Retirees are welcome to participate in monthly events. We highly value the perspectives of those who have retired, and would greatly appreciate your insights on transitioning to retirement.

Schedule: Meets monthly at 5:30pm, generally on the first Wednesday of the month.
