CHI (P) - Tell Me a Story: Short Story Listening and Discussion (3:30 PM)
Author Neil Gaiman says of short stories, "They are tiny windows into other worlds and other minds and dreams. They are journeys you can make to the far side of the universe and still be back in time for dinner." Because they are short by definition, they can only touch on character, plot, theme, conflict, etc. in abbreviated, but dramatic fashion.
We invite TTN Chicago members who love fiction or are just curious to join us -
we will be meeting at a member's home in Lincoln Park. We will begin by listening to one story read aloud, and then we will participate in a guided discussion of the text. Using the collection found in the book
100 Years of the Best American Short Stories, we'll be reading a wide array of authors such as Ernest Hemingway, Nancy Hale, James Baldwin, Grace Paley and Jamaica Kincaid. Their stories are sure to entertain and intrigue you!
TTN Members Pat Blank and Mary Lee Gosz will facilitate our sessions.
We will serve tea or coffee and follow along from the short story anthology during the meetings. Sessions will be held on the second Monday of every month, ending on May 9. Sign up for one or all of the sessions!
There is no better way to spend an afternoon together listening to a great short story and discussing it with your TTN friends. We hope you'll join us!
