SFE (V) - MT. Virtual Monthly Program: Of Butterflies and Bees, and We Can Help!
Small but mighty, pollinators are essential to our environment. They support the reproduction of over 85% of the world’s flowering plants, including more than two-thirds of crop species. Additionally, fruits and seeds derived from insect pollination are a major part of the diet of many birds and mammals.
In this beautifully illustrated presentation, Kaitlin Haase, will discuss the importance and diversity of pollinators and threats to their existence. She will also describe how to support pollinators through gardening.
In 2021 Kaitlin piloted the Xerces Society’s first urban pollinator habitat kit in Santa Fe. Three hundred fifty kits were distributed for use in yards and gardens throughout Santa Fe—a total of 11,550 plants! Join us to learn how to support pollinators and the future of the pollinator habitat program in Santa Fe. One can apply for free pollinator kits.
As the Xerces Southwest Pollinator Conservation Specialist, Kaitlin Haase works with land managers in the desert Southwest on pollinator-friendly practices for landscaping, gardening, and open space restoration. She also focuses on creating climate-resilient, connected pollinator habitat in Santa Fe and Albuquerque. Last year Kaitlin pioneered the Xerces Society’s urban pollinator habitat kit program in Santa Fe. She holds a Master’s degree in Environmental Science and Policy from Northern Arizona University.
