CHI (V) - Women and Brain Health Part 2: The Heart Brain Connection

Women and Brain Health: The Heart Brain Connection

Join us on August 10 at 5:30 CENTRAL as Dr. Aggarwal returns with Part 2 of her series where she’ll discuss the heart brain connection and why it is especially important for women across the lifespan. Our heart has an intrinsic cardiac nervous system, also known as the "heart-brain,” which allows the heart to act independently from the brain, remember and make decisions. That means that under normal conditions, in which the heart is functioning correctly, your heart doesn't need your brain to tell it to do its job. It just does it.

If your heart is functioning properly, your risk of stroke and vascular dementia reduces. If doesn’t, that’s when problems may arise. The good news is that lifestyle changes and modern medicine can help.

This is the 2nd discussion in a 5-part series called Women and Brain Health, led by Dr. Neelum Aggarwal, a board certified neurologist at Rush Medical Center and Associate Professor at Rush Medical University. Sponsored by TTN Chicago’s Caring Collaborative.
