NYC (P) - In-Person Private Tour of Javits Center Green Revitalization & Rooftop Farm (4pm ET)
Tuesday, August 9, 2022, 4:00 PM until 5:30 PM
In-Person Event for NYC members and guests.
Behind the chrome and glass sheen of the Javits conference center is a pulsing, city-within-a-city — full of new and hidden amenities that make Javits an innovator in sustainable design, urban farming, and state-of-the-art architectural amenities. All now available for view on our private tour led by Javits tour guide and TTN member, Loretta Lurie.
You’ll see food growing in abundance - from Arugula to Zucchini, flourishing on the 1-acre rooftop farm of the Javits Center’s newest building managed by Brooklyn Grange. And 35 bird species nesting in foliage on the roof plus 5 species of bats and 5 bee hives.
The attendees of our first Javits tour in July really enjoyed it:
"Most interesting."
"Reminded me how NYC manages to change/modernize and stay the same-all at the same time. It is a wonderful city!"
NOTE: Our tour will last around 90 minutes and we'll walk approximately eight blocks. Please wear comfortable shoes.
After our tour join us for (pay your own) happy hour at a rooftop restaurant near the endpoint of our tour - Social Drink and Food - on 10th Avenue & 41st Street.
OUR PRESENTER/GUIDE: Loretta Lurie is a relatively new member of TTN. She is one of the Javits Center Ambassadors who provide public and private tours of the bustling campus. With decades of experience as an advertising executive, Loretta knows the importance of storytelling and is proud to tell the story of the Center’s environmental transformation. And she is delighted to share it with fellow TTNers!
Guests of the Javits Center are no longer required to provide Proof of Covid vaccination, but our TTN tour participants will be in close proximity.
You will be asked during registration to confirm that you are fully vaccinated, and you are welcome to wear a mask if that makes you more comfortable during the tour.
