Discover the Secrets of Meringue Making!
On Zoom
Monday, February 6, 2023 - 3 to 4:30 pm EST
$5 - Open to All
Looking for an easy, inexpensive, and impressive dessert that is also naturally gluten-free? This class has the answer: meringues.
And just in time for Valentine's Day!
We will explore how to take a combination of whipped egg whites, sugar and cream of tartar to make a basic meringue cookie, an overnight meringue, a vegan version with aquafaba, and one with meringue powder that makes it even more stable in rainy or humid weather. And from there, you will learn to use use a pastry bag with various tips (or just two spoons if you prefer) to form cookies of different shapes and different colors by adding food coloring.
Meringues make such a pretty presentation! And they are so much easier to make than you might think.
We will also see how to vary the recipe to make a Pavlova (yes, named for the ballerina) to make a large “nest” (think a billowy tutu) that holds berries and makes an impressive statement. And the final application of the class will be to make an
Eton Mess
, a combination of meringue cookie pieces and a fruity sauce.
Come join us to play in the kitchen! A list of ingredients, tools, and directions will be emailed to you before class so that you can follow along. There will be time for all of your questions too, but feel free to contact Lynda Barness at lynda@
idoplan.com
if you have any questions prior to class (or after!)
