NYC – (P) Private Curator Tour of “Ritual and Memory” at NYU’s ISAW (11:15am)
Wednesday February 8th, 11:15 AM - 12:30PM
Join Fellow TTNers for a Private Docent Tour at NYU's Institute for the Study of the Ancient World
Ritual and Memory presents 200 exquisite ancient artifacts—figurines, eating and drinking vessels, jewelry, sculptures, swords, altars, and more — from the Balkan region of Europe. The show features seldom-exhibited ritual objects used by men and women, warriors and wives, kings and farmers, in celebrations and in funerals. Our tour guide will invite us to consider what these prehistoric archeological artifacts reveal about the connections between groups of people in the region.

The Exhibit is also a reminder that present-day borders are new and based on modern history rather than ancient precedent. We will learn how fluidity of cultural practices and the interactions between different ancient groups reinforced the dynamism of ancient southeastern Europe.
Our unique historical moment presents an unprecedented opportunity to view and explore new perspectives on the ancient world across a broad sweep of space and time. The participation of eighteen lending institutions in this exhibit signals a new era of international cultural diplomacy and collaboration.
PLEASE NOTE:
You will be asked to confirm that you have been fully vaccinated against covid when you register on the TTN website. A mask must be worn during our tour.
Attendees can join fellow TTNers for (pay-your-own) lunch nearby after our tour.
