C2C: (V) Aging in Place 7pm ET

To move or not to move? That is the  question.

Aging in place or continuing care communities:  Housing choices for Seniors or senior family members.

Most everyone has heard about “aging in place.” While this popular living concept works very well for many, aging in place is not a one size fits all situation. Remaining in your home or considering various Continuing Care Retirement options will be discussed at this informative and interactive event.

Continuing Care Retirement Communities, (CCRCs) have become a viable and successful solution for thousands of active people country wide. Also known as Life Care Communities, they offer older adults the comforts of home, companionship, medical care, all in one location. Couples and single people who are still living vibrant busy lives are moving into these facilities and letting others do the cooking, housekeeping, and heavy lifting. This talk is about what to know when you are looking, what questions to ask, whether city or country living, apartment, or house, and finances.

Addressed will be the basics of what you need to know about Continuing Care Retirement Communities, similarities, differences, rentals vs. buy-ins, profit vs. nonprofit facilities, and more. “If you’ve seen one CCRC, you’ve seen one CCRC”. If you learn only one thing, this is the takeaway. Every CCRC is different!!!

Roxanne Lorch, our presenter, is a Steering Committee member of the Coast to Coast chapter and has been a TTN member since 2001 when its first chapter started in Manhattan. She currently “ages in place” in an over 55 community and has researched the CCRC subject in depth. She helped found the local volunteer “Thriving in place” residents’ group of neighbors who help neighbors. After a long and successful career in design and sales marketing in the Contract Interiors Industry, she addressed retirement issues.  Starting her own business as a Professional Organizer and becoming a practicing fine artist were the next steps before moving from New York to Cary, North Carolina in 2010.  Currently, Roxanne is a full-time artist, has a studio in Durham, exhibits her works in juried shows, and happily wins awards.
