How to Successfully Age in Place: Home Safety, Accessibility and Universal Design

Long Island Chapter’s Health & Wellness Committee 4th Program in the Series of Seasons of Self Care 3.

 

Presented by Dr. Beverly Horowitz who is an active member of The L.I. TTN Health & Wellness Committee.

Dr. Horowitz holds a Masters degree in occupational therapy from Columbia University and PhD from Fordham Universitys Graduate School of Social Service. She is a gerontologist and geriatric care manager.

 

Home is important to all of us. It is where we spent much of our time,

entertain friends and family, and it holds emotional meaning. This session

addresses: 

1- Home safety and strategies to self-assess their home environment

to support safety by identifying trip hazards to reduce falls.

 

2-Provides strategies to maximize accessibility for the homeowner, friends and family

across the life span using universal design principles.
