The Met Cloisters
Medieval Art, Architecture and Gardens
Located on four acres in northern Manhattan's Fort Tryon Park, the Met Cloisters is a branch of the Metropolitan Museum of Art dedicated to the art, architecture, and gardens of medieval Europe. The building overlooks the Hudson River and actually incorporates five medieval-inspired cloisters into a modern museum structure, creating a historic, contextualized backdrop in which to view the art.
We’ll do a self-guided tour of the interior collection in small groups and meet outside at the end to enjoy the stunning gardens and views of the Hudson River. Whether you’re an art lover or looking for a peaceful place to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, the Met Cloisters is definitely worth a visit.
This is NOT a free event! Each attendee will pay on-site. Admission is $22 for seniors, $25 for Adults. TTN members who belong to the Metropolitan Museum of Art can use their membership to get in free.
Parking at The Cloister: There is free parking in Fort Tryon Park near the museum entrance however it is somewhat limited. We recommend car pooling and getting there early. We’ll gather in the lobby about 10:15am.
Car-Pooling: We strongly recommend car-pooling. Contact Gwynne if you need a ride or plan to drive and can take passengers. She is willing to take passengers and will assist in matching others.
Public Transportation: The closest Subway is the A train, Dyckman Street & Broadway, a 7 minute walk.
LUNCH: The Cloisters has a small cafe, however they do not allow groups and do not take reservations. Our best best is to head back across the river to Fort Lee. Chiller's Grill is a diner with an extensive menu and easy parking.
