What exactly is "balance"?
Can we improve it? Are there ways to reduce the chance of falling?
The answers are
"YES and YES!
"
Getting older shouldn't mean we give up the activities we enjoy or lose our independence, but there is no denying our balance changes as we age. We need to adapt!
In this interactive program, Carol Wimmer, Physical Therapist, will explain the elements of balance and the roles that our vision, sensation, strength and flexibility play in keeping us upright.
She will help you identify where your weaknesses lie and discover ways to lessen your risk of falling. You are welcome to participate in simple balance testing exercises, so please wear supportive shoes and have a sturdy chair nearby.
Carol Wimmer
began her physical therapy career in Tulsa, Oklahoma, working with people recovering from strokes, spinal cord injuries and head injuries. The next 5 years were spent in Australia, treating primarily a geriatric population in various settings (and traveling!).
She landed in Pittsburg, Kansas 30 years ago and has been a clinician, administrator and most recently a retiree!
