NYC (P) - Grandmothers’ Circle (6 PM)

February 15, March 13, April 10, May 8, June 12 & July 10 2024,
6:00 PM - 7:30 PM

Please join this 6 session program on one of life’s transitions...
becoming a grandparent

"I am clear about my role. I am the Nonna. My kids have a right to raise their family the way they want.....Being a Nonna entails opening myself up to certain kinds of suffering. I feel great love and responsibility, yet I have almost no control."
Eye of My Heart, Mary Pipher, Ph.D.

Becoming a grandparent is a major life transition. It calls into question family relationships, time, boundaries, and roles, the past and the future. While it is often joyful, there can be other complexities that are not as apparent as popular media will have you believe.

You are invited to join with other Nonnas, Grandmas, Bubbies, and Mimis to explore our grandmother role. Starting on February 15th and then once a month through July we will meet together in person to talk, laugh, maybe cry but definitely form an intimate, sharing community.

We welcome grandmothers (of all aged children) to create this unique community in which we will:

  • Make friends with other TTN member grandmothers
  • Share our grandmothering experiences
  • Learn from each other
  • Create a support network
  • Focus on key issues
We will gather once a month for six months as a consistent, supportive group to share our joys and challenges. Topics will be selected based on the group’s interests. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:
  • What do you think of your kids’ parenting?
  • What did you learn from YOUR grandparents and how does that work in your current family?
  • Grandparenting at a distance: joys and challenges
  • December dilemma: Interfaith families
  • The “other grandparents”: how are you different/the same; challenges and joys
  • Where do your kids get their parenting advice from? What have they shared with you? What do you think about it?
  • Grandparenting in tough times: boundaries and roles

In order to ensure great interaction, we are limiting this event to 15 participants who can commit to 5 out of the 6 dates.
