An urban oasis, Wave Hill’s 28 acres sit high above the Hudson River with sweeping views and lots of open sky--an enchanting surprise for all the senses. The site includes gardens, greenhouses and an 8-acre woodland.
Wave Hill is a museum without walls with a living collection of more than 4,000 varieties of trees, shrubs, vines and herbacious plants. It is the only public garden in the New York metropolitan area practicing a unique combination of classic horticultural craftsman and daring design.
Two Remarkable, Landmarked Homes anchor the property. Wave Hill House at the north end of the property, and Glyndor House at the south end, add interest--and amenities—to Wave Hill's property. The Cafe and Terrace are in the former and Glyndor Gallery which hosts art exhibitions is in the latter.
Why a Picnic and not the Wave Hill Café ?
Due to the size of our group, Wave Hill has discouraged our use of the Café. The Café is counter service only and doesn't have sufficient seating, especially if we all arrive at once. A group of 15 or larger would overwhelm counter service, resulting in significant delays in food service for all.
I did some research but cannot find a local restaurant that could handle a group of our size. So Picnic it is!

Wave Hill’s onsite parking lot is open, and the offsite lot—the Riverdale Park Parking Lot—is only two minutes from Wave Hill’s front entrance by car if the onsite lot is full when you arrive.
