Travel back to Chicago's own gilded age of formal attire, bespoke jewelry, Tiffany lamp illuminated rooms, and lives of incredible luxury. Join us for a private tour of this very special exhibit. Following a brief overview of the Driehaus Museum we will have a tour of Chicago Collects: Jewelry in Perspective, an exhibition of over two hundred pieces of rare and historically significant jewelry and decorative arts objects from the Richard H. Driehaus Collection, other Chicago institutions, and private collections from the 17th century to the present. Highlights of the exhibition include loans from the Field Museum from the 1893 World’s Fair; a rare piece of silver made by Paul Revere, Jr.; a handwrought silver punch bowl belonging to the Cliff Dweller’s Club; jewelry renderings by Art Nouveau master Rene ́Lalique; jewels and objects made by Chicago’s own Kalo Shop, as well as other Chicago artists from the Arts & Crafts Movement.
We will meet at 10:30 at the indoor entrance to the museum. We'll walk a block to True Food Kitchen for anyone who wants to enjoy lunch together after the tour.
