From Imprisoned to Empowered:
A Re-Entry Simulation Learning Experience
In Partnership with Why Not Prosper

10am to 12pm
 IBX Live - Center City
Members Only:  Free

A re-entry simulation for previously incarcerated women is an experiential learning exercise designed to help participants understand the challenges these women face when re-entering society after incarceration.

This is the first in a series of opportunites being offered by the graduates of Why Not Prosper, "Sisters with a Goal" (SWAG),  and is sponsored by the Philadelphia Chapter "Advocates for Equity" team.

It's not easy leaving prison,  When you go to jail, you lose your identity and all your benefits.  The women leaving the prisons in PA go through reentry with little preparation, planning, resources or support.  They face a barrage of rules and requirements that are daunting.  By signing up for this Re-entry Simulation, you will find out exactly what these women face.

The simulation will consist of a variety of stations relating to hurdles that must be dealt with immediately upon release, as well as, long-term requirements.

These stations include:

  • Recreating an identity by applying for a PA ID card
  • Receiving benefits
  • Staying in contact with the Department of Human Services
  • Fulfilling all requirements to regain custody of your children
  • Job requirements
  • Housing requirements
  • Fulfilling requirements of your Probation and those set down by your Judge.
  • Getting a GED, in some cases
  • Apply to register to vote
  • Substance abuse treatment
