Join us to learn from Juvenile Justice Coalition (JJC) Community Outreach Coordinator, Alleana Moss, how the JJC furthers its mission of changing policy with respect to youth and the court system, educating the public, and inspiring action.
Major JJC initiatives include:
Policing in Ohio – The JJC has advocated for greater police accountability and improvements in police interaction with children; a focus on policing staff retention rather than lowering the eligibility age for police officers from 21 to 18; and increased funding of student support personnel as an alternative to placing a police officer in every school.
Virtual Panel – On December 13, 2022 JJC hosted a virtual panel with three young people who discussed policing and the need for reform in how police interact with youth.
Mandatory Bindover – JJC is working to end the process by which a minor’s case is automatically sent to adult court for adjudication without a judge considering the facts, evidence, or circumstances of a case or of the child being charged.
Alleana Moss, Community Outreach Coordinator of the Juvenile Justice Coalition, is a Cleveland native and graduate of Otterbein University who has extensive experience working with underrepresented, diverse communities. She played a direct role in creating and developing an equity program in the Westerville schools, as well as introducing restorative justice practices. Alleana is a passionate and determined advocate for systemic social justice change. She will share with us an overview of JCC’s mission and current projects and suggestions on how TTN can get involved.
