About this event
This online workshop, for TTN members only, “Let’s Nurture Our Muse,” will encourage us to explore various forms of creative expression in a semi-structured way. We’ll find inspiration in various things (art, music, nature, etc.) and then turn our attention to our chosen expression (drawing, writing, etc.). Toward the end of each session, we’ll discuss active ways to keep our connection with our muse going during the month.
We will meet once a month, for 6 months, on the second Tuesday of each month.
6:00-7:30 pm (90 minutes) on ZOOM. Starts October 10, 2023.
Limited to 8 in this cohort. We want the same people to participate in each session. This size is best suited to the kind of free flowing and open conversations we want to engage in. Future workshops may be scheduled. We want anyone who registers to commit, as best as possible, to the 6-month length of this workshop. Since it will be on zoom it will be accessible anywhere. By registering for the first event on October 10th, you are committing to the 6 month session.
Suggested Reading: The Creative Habit: Learn It and Use It for Life (2003), by Twyla Tharp. We will cover one chapter monthly, building momentum to the next with assignments along the way. Using this approach, for six months, the SIG would cover the first six chapters of the text, with the option to complete the final six chapters over the next six months.
Bio: Deborah W. Holton, Professor Emerita, taught creativity and facilitated creative expression with adult learners for at least 20 of her 34 years at DePaul University. In 2019, she founded The Comfort Club, a virtual oasis for savvy women to explore ways to sustain their creativity and self-care in preparation for retirement and then during the pandemic. And, having had the privilege to provide care to her now-deceased mother, Holton knows well the potential that imagination holds for healing and renewal. Her various degrees center on creativity in theory and practice (Ph.D. in American Theatre Studies; MA in English; MFA in Creative Writing). A TTN member since 2018, Holton has facilitated or co-facilitated several TTN programs since then.
