You are invited to join us for a Virtual Tour of the
Ohio Village, a living history museum in Columbus, Ohio. It is operated by the non-profit Ohio History Connection.
The Ohio Village provides a firsthand view of life in Ohio during the American Civil War. The Village opened July 27, 1974, adjacent to the Ohio History Center in North Columbus.
The Village is themed toward life in the 1890s. The buildings are all reproductions and currently include: the Welcome Center, Schoolhouse, Town Hall, Telegraphic Advertiser, Emporium, Mason Lodge, Hotel and Tavern, Church, Pavilion, Bank, Ready Made Clothing, Photographer, Pharmacy, Blacksmith, Barn, Funeral Parlor, Toy Shop, Barber Shop, Bicycle shop, and Lodging Houses.
Our presenter, Docent Lexie Bickell, is a seasoned member of the team at the Village. She will be dressed in costume and will share photos of the structures, costumes, and signature events.
One of the most popular of the Village's annual events is the All Hallow's Eve, an 1860s-style celebration of Halloween that has taken place in late October every year since 1985. The festivities include fortunetelling, costumed interpretation of beliefs and superstitions related to the season, and a parade for the dead through the town center meant to appease roaming spirits. The night culminates in a production of Washington Irving's Legend of Sleepy Hollow.
Learn about Dickens Christmas as acted out every December. This event features live carolers; horse-drawn carriage rides; a Victorian Santa Claus; and Dickens' own Scrooge, Marley, and the Ghosts of Christmas.

Our Speaker
Lexie Bickell was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. She has a degree in French from Hood College, located in Frederick, MD, with further study at the Université Laval, in Québec; Columbia University, Miami University, U. of Cincinnati and OSU.
She came to Ohio in 1966 and has lived in Columbus for 38 years. Her family always loved history, and both parents were costumed interpreters and re-enactors, so she was always interested in it. She started volunteering as a costumed interpreter at Ohio Village when she retired from teaching in 2004.
She and her husband have two children and four grandchildren. Her main hobbies are travel, photography and piano.
