About this event
So what does it mean to garden sustainably? Sustainable gardening combines organic gardening practices with resource conservation. Generally, sustainable gardening:
• is forward-thinking
• values ecosystem support
• makes as little negative impact on the earth as possible
• works with nature instead of against it
Our presenter will be Brenda Frank. Here's Brenda in her own words:
I’ve been a Fairfax County Master Gardener for 18 years and a horticulture volunteer for the U.S. Botanic Garden for the same length of time. I’m Chair of Speakers Bureau of the Fairfax County Master Gardeners, Past President of the McLean Trees Foundation, President of the Fairfax Tree Stewards, and a Commissioner on the Fairfax County Tree Commission. I garden on 1/3 acre in McLean, Virginia. Each year I grow hundreds of annuals, perennials, and vegetables, many from seeds in my basement. For over 20 years the garden has been a National Wildlife Association certified backyard habitat and an Audubon Wildlife. It’s more of an obsession than a hobby.
