About this event

Women's Connection Presents:
Creating Home Together:  The Shared Housing Experience
Annamarie Pluhar

Monday, October 7, 2024
4:30pm - 6:00pm Eastern Time
Virtual - Will be Recorded

This session will explore the concept of shared housing and how other women have found their way to this natural but uncommon option. Shared housing can be a viable solution for older adults seeking the benefits of affordable living, companionship, shared responsibilities, and a sense of community.  It’s about creating a home together.

Annamarie Pluhar, author of Sharing Housing: A Guidebook for Finding and Keeping Good Housemates, will present on how shared housing can enhance your well-being and security. She’ll address the concerns that make people hesitant, while offering practical strategies for finding trustworthy housemates and creating successful living arrangements. Attendees will gain insight into the selection process, common pitfalls, and the numerous benefits of shared housing. The session will conclude with a Q&A.

Our knowledgable speaker consults with organizations, housing professionals, the aging network and local officials who are seeking to develop shared housing in their communities. The twin crises of high housing costs and an increase in social isolation combine to render coorperative living arrangements an excellent solution. By providing education, advocacy, and model development, Annamarie empowers individuals to choose, create, and sustain shared housing.

She envisions a world in which shared housing is a commonly accepted living arrangement and individuals feel happy, safe and at peace with their home-mates.

"Annamarie does a masterful job of guiding a person through the difficult task of finding and keeping a housemate—very even-handed in her portrayal of the options one has in each phase of the process."
