From its inception, The Women's Connection, has recognized that we are not the same people we were in our forties and that there is much to look forward to as we age. Literature on aging often calls this the “second half of life” – a time of growth and change.
This time of life offers us the opportunity to age “consciously”. Instead of allowing ourselves to drift into old age, worrying about the losses it can bring, “conscious aging” is about creating a new life stage of self-development and spiritual growth.
The conscious aging movement began in 1995, when Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi shared this new approach in his book From Age-ing to Sage-ing: A Revolutionary Approach to Growing Older.
Based upon Rabbi Schacter-Salomi’s groundbreaking work, “Sage-ing International”, a non-profit organization has created and facilitated workshops across the globe to support older adults in becoming spiritually radiant, physically vital and socially responsible “elders.” Sage-ing” is a model for engaging more deliberately, more joyfully, and more compassionately in life as we grow older.
The Women's Connection, Twin Cities Chapter, is pleased to sponsor an introduction to “Online Deepening the Sage Within” on November 6th from 2:30 -4:00 PM (EST). This program will be led by chapter member, Karen West, who has been a Certified Sage-ing Leader since 2017. The program is free-of-charge for Women's Connection members. Please join us and explore if this approach to aging speaks to you.
For those interested in learning more about conscious ageing, we are also sponsoring a seven- week, interactive workshop that will be held on seven consecutive Wednesdays, beginning on January 29th, 2025, from 2:30-5PM (EST) . It is a wonderful way to deepen our understanding of this second half of life and share thoughts and ideas with other Women's Connection members. Due to the interactive nature of this workshop, space is limited., so register early. The cost for the seven-week workshop is $175.00.
