About this event
This event is hosted by the Long Island Chapter’s Anti-Racism Task Force
The mission of the National Parks is to protect and enhance our National Parks system for present and future generations. A gateway to nature is provided by these locations, however the National Parks are so much more. The National Parks Conservation Association works to preserve sites which are historically relevant. They showcase people and buildings, as well as movements and events, having occurred at those very spots. Each visit, walk or hike is an opportunity to learn something of our nation’s history, the truth at its core. The NPCA conducts various tours across the country, for those travel lovers among us.
Please join us as we welcome Lauren Cosgrove, the NPCA’s Northeast Campaign Director, to illustrate the impact of the parks in our lives and on the telling of our history. Lauren will be joined by Pamela Pettyjohn, President of the Coney Island Beautification Project, to tell us about the Port Markers Project, explaining how we can be involved in a coalition to advocate for expanding information about the Slave Trade in our area and to advance the NPCA’s park protection work on Long Island.
