Listed below are the recipients of our grants since the inception of our Giving Circle in 2012. They all continue to do wonderful work and continue to enrich our community, and we are proud to have financially supported their efforts. We also look forward to adding to this list every year. JOYFUL READERS (2024)

The mission of Joyful Readers is to ensure that all students gain the literacy skills they need to become successful, confident and yes . . . joyful readers! To learn more, click here.

HISTORIC FAIR HILL (2024)

The mission of Historic Fair Hill is to act as a collaborative partner in the revitalization of the Fair Hill community through school partnerships for literacy, greening and community engagement events. To learn more, click here.

12 PLUS (2023)

The mission of 12 Plus is to increase education equity by building school cultures that inspire academic achievement and empower students to succeed in education beyond 12th grade. To learn more, click here.

AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES PARTNERSHIPS (2023)

The mission of the After School Activities Partnerships is to develop high quality after school activities and resources to empower youth and strengthen communities in Philadelphia. ASAP coordinates four citywide initiatives that engage 5,000 youth (grades K-12) each year in fun, enriching out-of-school time activities and experiences that develop critical academic, social and emotional skills. YOUTH ART & SELF-EMPOWERMENT PROJECT (2023)

The Youth Art & Self-empowerment Project (YSAP) is building a youth-led movement to end the practice of trying and incarcerating young people as adults and create a world without youth incarceration. Through their work in the Philadelphia jails, YASP provides space for incarcerated young people to express themselves creatively and to develop as leaders both within and beyond the prison walls. KENSINGTON SOCCER CLUB (2023)

Kensington Soccer Club is dedicated to uniting and advancing the broader Kensington community with high quality soccer and youth development programs for everyone, regardless of ability to pay. To learn more, click here.

ST. CHRISTOPHER'S FOUNDATION FOR CHILDREN (2022)

St. Christopher's Foundation for Children's mission is to support the core health needs of children in the community served by St Christophers hospital, through innovative programs, outreach, research and education. They also provide free dental care to children in need. To learn more, click here.

SOWN (2022)

The mission of SOWN (Supportive Older Women's Network) is to strengthen community support, reduce social isolation and improve well being of older adults, especially women. SOWN also provides support for grandparent-headed families, caregivers for loved ones, and vulnerable older adults in the Greater Philadelphia region. To learn more, click here.

THE WAGNER INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE (2022)

The Wagner Free Institute of Science provides free educational programs that address glaring educational inequities for inner city children (particularly in the area of science) as well as address low representation of African Americans in STEM careers. The Wagner Free Institute of Science is also open to the public so we encourage you to not only read about the institute, but to visit as well. To learn more, click here.

TREE HOUSE BOOKS (2021)

Tree House Books serves as a Giving Library and Literacy Center headquartered in North Philadelphia. Founded in 2005, it provides free books to children and families, and Out of School Time (OST) programs that increase literacy skills, and promote a lifelong love of reading and writing. This nonprofit reaches children from their earliest moments, through high school. Tree House Books has its roots in the belief that literacy - in its many forms - is fundamental to academic success, career readiness, and personal empowerment. https://www.treehousebooks.org/

WHY NOT PROSPER (2021) 

Started by a formerly incarcerated woman, Why Not Prosper is committed to providing programs and services that support women in their re-entry efforts from prison to community. It offers a continuum of programs which include pre-release mentoring for incarcerated women, residential services and community services at its Philadelphia resource center. URBAN TREE CONNECTION (2020)

Working with residents of West Philadelphia's Haddington neighborhood — one of Philadelphia’s poorest areas —UTC addresses food insecurity through farming and distributing produce in the community. Through its work, this nonprofit cultivates community leadership, and works to develop a local, sustainable, and equitable food system. http://urbantreeconnection.org

SENIOR LAW CENTER (2019)

Our grant supported the Law Center’s Families in Crisis: Keeping Grandparents and Grandchildren Together program. Through this project, SLC provides direct legal representation to low-income seniors seeking custody of grandchildren and other related minors who have lost their birth parents or been abandoned, abused or neglected. In partnership with Grand Central Kinship Care Resource Center SLC also provide social services to help these new, intergenerational families thrive. https://seniorlawcenter.org/

TURNING POINTS FOR CHILDREN (2018)

Turning Points for Children offers transition services to young adults, ages 17-22, who age out of the foster care system. This program offers one-on-one support for young people who would otherwise find themselves without the necessary skills and resources to live successfully at this critical junction in their young lives. Housing, education, mental health, and employment are among the many issues addressed in charting a course for their future.

REBUILDING TOGETHER PHILADELPHIA (RTP) (2017)

Our grant supported RTP’s project, “VoTech in the House!” which mobilized vocational education students to make free health and safety home repairs for low income home owners who live in the Fairhill section of North Philadelphia. This initiative is part of RTC’s ongoing commitment to revitalize overlooked but critical Philadelphia neighborhoods.

NEW LEASH ON LIFE (2016) 

New Leash on Life pairs prisoners at the Riverside Correctional Facility with at-risk dogs from shelters. The dogs are assigned to live with, and be trained by, the selected prisoners, enabling the animals to become desirable for adoption, and affording the inmates employment opportunities upon parole. https://www.newleashonlife-usa.org

PENN’S VILLAGE (2015) 

Penn's Village enables Philadelphia residents to age in place, remaining independent, safe, active and socially engaged in their communities. Its members receive access to volunteer services, cultural, educational, healthy living, recreational programs and events.  https://www.pennsvillage.org

PEOPLE’S EMERGENCY CENTER (2014)

Located in West Philadelphia. PEC’s mission is to nurture families, strengthen neighborhoods and drive change. For families, children, and youth experiencing homelessness, PEC offers more than 235 affordable housing units, job training, parenting and early childhood education, financial education and planning, life skills and technology classes. PEC seeks to change the life trajectory for the families who seek its services and inspire them to achieve housing security and financial stability. https://www.pec-cares.org

VALLEY YOUTH HOUSE (2013)

Valley Youth House helps youth in foster care prepare for life when they age out of the foster care system and need access to shelter and counseling. Our grant was used to assist youth who were continuing their education beyond high school through tuition, transportation assistances and purchase of supplies. https://www.valleyyouthhouse.org
