Giving Circle News ... MAY

TTN PHILADELPHIA GIVING CIRCLE

 MONTHLY NEWSLETTER

May, 2023

Dear Giving Circle Members and Friends:

As we mentioned before, Thursday, May 18th, is our biggest night of the year and we hope you choose to join us. It is the culmination of months and months of work, by our Grants Committee members, of course, but also by the many others who, through hard work and contributions, have made this our biggest grant year ever. We also cannot express enough gratitude to the nonprofit organizations who have openly shared how they work each day to improve the lives of children in Philadelphia. Over the last few months, they have worked tirelessly to educate us about their organizations from completing our application to hosting us at site visits.

On May 18, we will hear from each of the selected semi-finalists and vote to select the four nonprofits to receive a grant of $30,000 each. It is the night on which all of our work comes down to choosing, from the many worthy applicants, those that we will financially support this year. It is the night when we hear about the amazing work they are all doing to improve the lives of underserved children in Philadelphia and then make the really tough decision about which four to support this year. For more information about the evening, see below.

So, we you urge you to register and join us! We promise you will walk away inspired.

Who can attend?

Anyone who has an interest in learning more about the incredible work being done by local nonprofits to support underserved children in Philadelphia can attend. For those of you who contributed $200 or more to the TTN Philadelphia Giving Circle in 2022, you are a “voting” member and get to vote to help choose the final grants recipients. If you gave less than $200 or are just interested in learning more about collective giving and our TTN Philadelphia Giving Circle, you can attend to listen and learn, with the hope that you will consider being part of the process next year. Anyone on the Grants Committee will tell you what a rewarding experience it is.

What you will learn?

You will hear from seven or eight worthy nonprofits that have been selected by the Grants Committee to be our semi-finalists. You will meet them on Zoom and they will tell you about their work and the children whose lives they touch. It is always an inspirational evening.

So, what are we asking?

We are asking that you register and you reach out and invite anyone who you think would enjoy this evening. We need all of you there to make it the biggest and best night of the year!

Volunteers will meet at Bartram's Garden. Event will be from 9:45am to 12:45pm. Space is limited . . . Click here to register.

Volunteer Opportunity . . . . May 13th

Camp Sojourner Girls' Leadership Program helps Philadelphia girls (ages 8-18) become leaders, take charge of their own lives and act as agents of positive change in their communities. In addition to year-round mentoring, service projects, creative arts and leadership activities, Camp Sojourner hosts an annual overnight summer program for the girls.

Activity:  We will divide into several small groups, each group being comprised of a few volunteers and a few girls. We'll garden, chat, and get to know each other. Perhaps some mentorship opportunities will develop as a result of connections made during the time we are with the girls.
