NYC (P) Historic Apollo Theater Private Tour with “Mr. Apollo” Billy Mitchell-Explore NYC 11am ET
Wednesday, May 10, 2023, 11:00 AM until 12:30 PM
Join TTNers at the Apollo Theater in Harlem for a private tour with the Apollo’s Chief Historian, Billy Mitchell. We will explore the legendary history of the Apollo with behind-the-scenes access to the place “Where Stars are Born and Legends are Made”. The Apollo played a major role in the emergence of jazz, swing, bebop, gospel, blues, and soul — all quintessentially American music genres. Today, the Apollo is a non-profit multidisciplinary performing arts center.
This tour connects the past, present, and future of the Apollo through the entertaining and inspiring storytelling of Apollo historian Billy “Mr. Apollo” Mitchell. The landmarked 1913 building will be closed soon for renovation, so don’t miss this opportunity to see it in-person.
After the tour you can join fellow TTNers for (pay-your-own) lunch nearby at Harlem Shake.
Our Presenter: “Mr. Apollo” Billy Mitchell
Billy has interacted with thousands of visitors from around the world, transporting them through the Apollo’s history and pivotal eras in Harlem. His is a unique presentation - part performance and part historical lecture. With his backstage memories and stories about Apollo legends like James Brown, Stevie Wonder, Mary J. Blige, and more, Mr. Mitchell provides a unique behind-the-scenes insight that only a true insider can give.
