About this event
Montclair Museum Tour
Vanessa German Multi-Media Exhibition:
"please imagine all the things I cannot say"
May 7 11:00 AM
Guided by TTN member & docent
Debbie Bogstahl
"vanessa german: …please imagine all the things i cannot say… is a large-scale, immersive, site-specific installation of mixed-media works by vanessa german (b. 1976)–a self-taught sculptor, painter, poet, and performance artist residing in Pittsburgh. german calls herself a citizen artist and is interested in art as a form of healing and protection, especially for African-Americans. Her primarily female power figures explore themes of strength, love, and justice while engaging with the complicated history of race in the United States." - Montclair Art Museum
This is the artist's first solo museum exhibit in the New York City Area. Visitors will be dazzles by her use of a wide range of materials and objects, many of which she has found in vacant lots, vacant homes and other unlikely places, including Prayer beads, doll parts, quilts, skateboards, rope, silk flowers, cowrie shells, and more.
No cancellations after May 1 as we must commit to the museum. On the day of the tour, please meet inside the lower level entrance off the parking lot.
Optional lunch will follow the tour at nearby Toast restaurant. We will walk there after the tour. Please bring cash to split the check if you wish to attend!
Side Note: For anyone who is interested, Montclair Art Museum will be hosting a "Meet The Artist" event on April 20, at 7pm. Visit Meet The Artist - Vanessa German for more information.
