Sponsors of this program are Gramercy Books, The King Arts Complex, Jewish Columbus’ Women’s Philanthropy & Community Relations Council, and Jewish Community Center of Greater Columbus. The story focuses on a small neighborhood of Pottstown, Pennsylvania called Chicken Hill and the long-held secrets of that community. Chicken Hill is described as a “dilapidated neighborhood where immigrant Jews and African Americans lived side by side and shared ambitions and sorrows”. The novel delves into the lives of people in this community and “it becomes clear how much the people who live on the margins of white, Christian America struggle and what they must do to survive”. The event is being held on the 60th anniversary of Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech. The speech and the book focus on hope, love, and community.
