Learn about the history of printing and try your hand at printing your own unique poster at Penn’s Common Press.
The Common Press is the letterpress and book arts studio at the University of Pennsylvania. With printing presses dating from the 1850’s to the 1960’s and a collection of wood and metal type, the facility provides an environment to learn about the history of the book and to creatively experiment with hands-on, centuries old printing techniques.
Our visit will include a history of the Common Press and a tour of the various presses, followed by an opportunity to try your own hand at using one of these presses. You’ll leave with a hand printed poster, printed using original wooden type, reflecting your unique sentiment of what ‘transition’ means to you. Please note that owing to the small size of this facility, there are limited spaces available. This is a repeat of the 11/15 session. Cancellations with refunds are accepted through 11/22/23. Should you have to cancel by that date, you will be issued a credit which will be applied to your TTN account, for future purchases.
