NYC (V) - African American Art: A Mirror of Social Issues 12/22/23 (4pm ET)
About this event
Friday, December 22, 2023, 4:00 PM - 5:30 PM (ET)
* NOTE: NEW DATE
Since April 2022, TTNers have participated in monthly virtual conversations on the role that works of art play in commenting on and enhancing our mirror into social issues. Our conversations are guided by artist and educator, Chichi Lovett.
Chichi introduces a work of art and … we all talk about it: what we see, whether we 'like' it, what we think it is about, etc.
Chichi takes us on a 'journey' through and around the work, reveals who painted, drew or sculpted it, and tells us something about the artist.
Professor Lovett’s discussions are for everyone. They’re fun, direct, sometimes intimate and always engaging. And we learn a lot!
IMPORTANT NOTES:
(1) Prior art experience of any kind is absolutely not necessary.
(2) This is not a series - sign up for one at a time.
(The Painting Above was Discussed at a Previous Session)
This is a “cameras on” live discussion – following the format of Professor Lovett’s popular online classes.
Our Presenter:
Garnetta ‘Chichi’ Lovett is a retired Auburn University tenured professor who now resides in Washington DC. She currently hosts a popular weekly online arts program that attracts a diverse national audience. In addition to her teaching responsibilities at Auburn, Chichi served on the Alabama State Council for the Arts, served as the Diversity Officer for the College of Liberal Arts at Auburn University, and co-founded Auburn City Kids and the Auburn Arts Association Visual Arts Workshops among other community arts programs and courses.
